The department of Arts at Shrimati Sitabai Ranguji Shinde Mahavidyalaya is committed to student success by providing the highest level of education. The Department of Arts provides the students an opportunity to study the following subjects.

Among 6 subjects, English is a compulsary subject. The students have to select any 5 subects from following 6 subjects.

The students have to select optional English if they want to take English as a special subject from the second year. Students can also take Functional English for the first year (Arts). However only 30 students can take this subject and admission is given on the basis of merit and interview.

The Faculty of Arts was started in 1997-98 in Shrimati Sitabai Ranguji Shinde Mahavidyalaya, whereas the Department of Marathi was established in June 1997. Since then till date, the demand for admission in the department is increasing. Staff of the department is continuously trying for improvement in the student’s performance in all aspects by conducting various departmental activities.

Modern Teaching Method:

In the Department of Marathi, the following activities are conducted from time to time for the improvement of the results of our department.

  • Test series, kavya vachan, slide shows, guest lectures, tutorials, display of various articles, extra coaching, functions & celebrations, guidance for competitive examination
  • Test series and tutorials are conducted by the department to assess the comprehension abilities of the students
  • Extra coaching classes are conducted for competitive examinations
  • Articles in newspapers provide important and topical information. So, a number of articles have been collected by the department
  • Guest lectures are organized by the department for the benefit of the students
  • Birth and death anniversaries of freedom fighters and great leaders are celebrated to inspire the students.

  • Extra coaching classes are conducted for competitive examinations
  • Map reading and slide shows play a vital role in providing information about events, situations and historical monuments
  • Articles in newspapers provide important and topical information. So, a number of articles have been collected by the department
  • Guest lectures are organized by the department for the benefit of the students
  • Birth and death anniversaries of freedom fighters and great leaders are celebrated to inspire the students.
  • Organized training program on Modi Script

Participation of teachers in academic and personal counselling of students:

Apart from this, to inculcate research attitude in students, we encourage them to work on projects, e.g. history of Shivneri, history of Lenyadri, etc. We find this activity very effective to bring about social awareness amongst the students and to develop historical writing methods.

Learning resources of the department

The geography laboratory is well-equipped with all necessary instruments like

  • Surveying instruments including plane table sets, prismatic compass sets, dumpy level, ebony level, etc.
  • Weather instruments including thermometers, cup anemometer, wind vanes, rain gauge, Stevenson’s screen, etc.
  • Drawing instruments including tracing tables.
  • We have an adequate collection of maps & charts like charts showing weathering processes, signs and symbols used in topographical maps, signs and symbols used in Indian Daily Weather Report, cultural activities, etc.
  • Maps for various areas include world, continents, countries, states etc. Three Dimensional maps for better understanding of relief are, World map, map of India and Maharashtra
  • Projectors - Overhead projectors, Slide Projectors, G.P.S. machines, Telescope, L.C.D.Projector, computers

Modern Teaching Method:

Various activities are taken up by the department so as to unfold and activate the students' potential and to equip them with skills required for their development (personality development). Certain extra curricular activities organized by the department also help in stimulating their creative ability and preparing them to live confidently in a rapid changing world. Facilities for the students:

The Department of Geography provides maximum necessary facilities to the students. The hall (laboratory) is free for use to the students to carry out the assigned work as well as for group discussions regarding current issues and related topics to improve their general knowledge. To maintain uniformity in the practical work, the department provides neat bound journals to the students at nominal costs. To maintain the journals and drawing materials properly, the department provides lockers to the students.

Books & Journals:

There are approximately one thousand and sixty six books related to Geography, which covers 500 reference books and 566 text books. Periodical subscriptions at present are:

  • Journal of Rural Development,
  • Transaction, Institute Of Indian Geographers.
    Willingness to subscribe for the periodicals and communication with the editors is in progress for the following:
  • Annals of the National Association Of Geographers.
  • Geographical Journal.

The Department also proposes to explore the possibility of starting a course on Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) and will try to generate funds in this direction.

All the heads of the departments have completed o4 U. G. C. Refresher Courses each in different fields of Economics. As well as they attended and participated in the various seminars and workshops at university level & conferences at State, National & International level.

In department of economics following activities are conducted from time to time for improvement of the results of department & enrichment of the knowledge of the students.

Test series & Tutorials are conducted by the departmental to examine the students comprehenced and understand the matter effectively extra coaching class & compitative examinations are usefull in preparing themselves. The different types of articals news papers provides and important informations of important events, so number of articals have been collected by the department.

Future Plan :

  • Research Work-Plan to undertake miner & major Research Project
  • The Department explore the possibility of starting B. A. Economics Degree Course in English Medium. Present Medium of Instruction is Marathi
  • To arranged State & National Level Seminars.
  • To Start the Research Center of M. Phil & Ph.D.
  • To Start the certificate course in rural development.
